Camping Le Nid du Parc in Villars-les-Dombes. The Dombes is a nature reserve and consists of more than 1,100 lakes. The lakes were excavated in the Middle Ages for fish farming. Today fish farming still takes place there is a protected nature reserve. The nature reserve is known breeding territory. The family campground Le Nid Du Parc is located in the middle of this nature reserve. The campground has a set-up pool that is taken down in the fall. The Chalaronne River flows past the campground, but swimming in the river is prohibited. Villars-les-Dombes is also home to the largest bird park in Europe. The park is home to more than 300 bird species from around the world whose natural environment has been recreated. Camping Le Nid du Parc is open from late March to mid-November.
