The collection of the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar spans nearly 7,000 years of art history. From prehistory to modern art from the 20th century.
Altarpiece of Isenheim.
The top work in the collection is the Isenheim altarpiece. The altarpiece was sculpted by Nikolaus of Haguenau and painted by Matthias Grünewald in 1512 – 1516.

Guernica carpet.
Another top work is Jacqueline de la Baume Dürrbach’s Guernica tapestry. The carpet is based on Pablo Picasso’s masterpiece Guernica.
Picasso gave permission to make three tapestries. The first carpet was made in 1955 and purchased by Nelson Rockefeller. It hangs in UN headquarters in New York.
The second tapestry from 1976 hangs in the Unterlinden Museum. Created in 1983, the third tapestry hangs in the Takasaki Modern art museum in Japan.

The museum is closed on Jan. 1, May 1, Nov. 1 and Dec. 25. The city campground in Colmar is only 2 kilometers from the museum.
